Ricardo Mills from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is a singer-songwriter and performing artist who expresses the values of Jah and the Rastafarian culture in his original music. Jah defender is an amazing lyricist so you can catch him singing melodic songs or laying down insightful lyrics on top of a track.
Mills began singing as a youth at 7 years old, but only casually amongst friends in school, and then began chanting reggae in secondary school at the age of 14. Ricardo’s mother had a huge influence on his musical taste, singing Patsy Cline, Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie and the hits of the 80's and 90's. Chanting Capleton, Sizzla, Anthony B, Luciano, Garnett Silk Norris Man and the reggae stars of the 90s, Jah Defender says, “It was part of me, I just loved the lyrics and flow of reggae, the rebel for a cause word sound enticed me.” He wrote his first song at 18 and began his musical career in 2004 under the name of Jah Fyah but later decided to change his name to Jah Defender. According to Mills, "Jah Defender" is more consistent with the profound mission he feels he is invested in. For the committed artist it is important to educate and raise awareness so that people carry on and do not forget their precious heritage.
Jah Defender has shared the stage with many artists such as Morgan Heritage, Junior Reid and Chezidek, Maxi, Priest, Midnite and Super Cat, Jah Defender also did a duet with Chuck Fender on the title "I Love it so" in 2009,currently working on releasing another mighty collabaration with Pressure Busspipe and another with Fantan Mojah. Although Jah Defender is an independent artist his first album "Rastaman Rise" was entirely produced by the independent French label 7 Seals Records, which consists of fifteen tracks and released July 2013. The album was blessed with Tiwony signing on the title "Give Thanks."Look out for another album soon from the same label, also for Jah Defender to be coming to a city or town near you...Music is life!!!
